| Decorating with tapestries
should be easy but sometimes it seems a little more
complicated! Here are a few tips to help you get the
right combination of theme, subject, colors and size.
Theme or Subject
This is the most important design decision. A tapestry
can look great in almost any room, from the kitchen
(food, wine, café themes), to the bedroom
(floral, European scenes) to the bathroom (seascapes,
birds) the dining room (paintings, ruins, old world,
floral, café scenes, contemporary) and the
living room (Villas, music, Italy, France, floral,
European scenes), to the study or den (animals,
beaches, Europe) and the front entrance hall (any
of the above in matching pairs).
There is only one rule – love the design!
Then, no matter where you display it, you will love
it!
Colors
Select the main colors (the most used 2 or 3 colors)
in the room. Select a tapestry in which some of
these same colors appear. This way, the tapestry
and the room colors will be in harmony with each
other. For example, a mainly blue painted room could
have some of that blue, or a shade of it, in the
tapestry, bringing the color of the wall (or carpet,
or sofa) into the tapestry.
If your walls are light or neutral, then the tapestry
could pick-up some of the main colors in the chairs,
sofa, carpet, or drapes. Above all, when it comes
to color, trust your instincts and you will be happy!
Size
Your tapestry (or tapestries) will play either
a minor or a major role in the room design. If you
want a striking visual effect, you will want the
largest tapestry the wall and your purse can accommodate.
If, on the other hand, the room already has major
visual things going on, then perhaps you will just
want one or a pair of smaller tapestries as accents.
When it comes to tapestries, the general rule is,
the bigger the better!
Matching Pairs
Sometimes, matching pairs of tapestries will more
than double your pleasure! You can concentrate a
pair over, say, a side buffet, bed, entry hall table,
cabinet, staircase, hallway etc , space them further
apart on a long wall for greater coverage , or display
a matching pair with one on each facing wall. You
could display 2 or more pairs climbing along a staircase.
In a room with a very high ceiling, you could display
one above the other, or over a single or double
door! The combinations are unlimited!
Dress Them Up!
One great way to create a touch of added elegance
is to use tassels hanging on either side of the
tapestry (see our tassels @ 50% off). Or add a plant
or flowers to the ‘scene’.
